Just like his Dad before him, Dad was a truck driver. A Professional Over the Road Truck Driver.
It's hard to describe the excitement of hearing the 'Silver Pallet's' deep voice on our home CB base station when Dad was almost home. Alton and Terrell (we call him T) would climb trees around our place in an effort to be the one who saw the truck first.
We'd spend the next few days helping get the truck ready for Dad's next trip. Anything we could do that meant we could get in the truck and act like we were driving, we did. Sweeping, cleaning windows, wiping down the interior. Bob usually had the last task which was to shine Dad's boots just before he left again.
When Dad was gone, we drove all the same miles he did usually on our knees with toy trucks. Sometime it was at the end of our bunk beds occasionally climbing back into the sleeper. We filled out log books and made modifications to our trucks with cardboard and electrical tape.
We loved trucking then and I guess knew that someday, somehow we would be in the business ourselves.
As soon as the law allowed Alton and T joined the Navy. Alton served on an aircraft carrier while T was a 'Tin Can Sailor' on a destroyer, both deploying multiple times on the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
After his tour in the Navy was up, Alton returned home and moved the trucking torch forward. For the next eight years, he would drive over 1 million miles before returning to military service, this time in the United States Army. After 23 years of active service and multiple combat deployments, Alton retired in 2016 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and now serves as the head of our brokerage division, Kendall Brothers Logistics in addition to driving a 1986 Cabover Kenworth for the company.
T also returned home after his commitment to the Navy and has carried the Kendall Brothers Trucking torch for over 25 years. Having driven well over 3 million miles and owning and operating his own trucks, T daily demonstrates excellence as an over the road driver, even being recognized as Top Driver and Driver of the Year. In a day and age where they are hard to find, he is truly a Professional Truck Driver.
Bob followed in his big brothers' footsteps joining the Navy shortly after graduating high school. For the next 23 years, Bob dreamed of joining his brothers in the trucking business, but continued to serve in the Navy. After many deployments at sea and on land, Bob retired in 2016 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and now serves as a driver and head of our trucking division, Kendall Brothers Trucking.
In summary, The Kendall brothers know trucking and the sacrifice required to serve others. They have lived it their entire lives and that legacy of service now lives on in Kendall Brothers Logistics and Trucking.
